When a company hires a manager that tires to make things more efficient and talks constantly about efficiency and how efficient he is, but then turns out he lives an hour and 15 mins away from work, would you start to question him? Spending 12 and a half hours driving back and forth a week makes them loose credibility on efficiency, wouldn't you think? The people at my job do.

Sounds like something the writers of "Officespace" neglected to include in their movie. I'd agree with you and your co-workers. Spending 12+ hours a week commuting has got to be inefficient.
A year or so ago I spent 2 weeks working on-site with a customer in New York City. Roughly 50 people use the software I support at this location. Anyway, some of those users live in NYC, others in Brooklyn, Others across the way in NJ. I spoke with one person who commutes from Philadelphia on a train every day. Another user there commutes from Connecticut--2.5 hours each way on trains, subways, and buses.
And these people wonder why they never feel rested. hello!!! You work 13+ hours a day between your job and your commute! DUH!!!
I asked Mr Connecticut why he chooses to live so far from work. His answer..."I like trees and grass". I invited him on a walk through Central Park but he declined.
